Glory Days?

Less than 20 days until pitchers and catchers report to spring training. Yes friends, baseball time is almost here again. And, in this day and age of merchandising, the Rangers have made changes to the uniforms... again. But instead of 5 jerseys (home, road, sleeveless home, sleeveless road, blue), they're going with four this year, including a very familiar look:

Hey, it's red! Remember when the Rangers wore red? Man, those were some good times. True, we got swept by the Yankees in three out of four years, but hey, at least we were in contention! Apparently, the mid to late 90s red was a color scheme that fans didn't want to let go of, so they're bringing it back. It'll look sharp on the field, but red alternate jerseys are already worn by the Angels, Braves, and Red Sox, so they don't really stand out as much as they would have, say, ten years ago.

What irks me about the uniform changes though is that all four jerseys say "Texas" on them. Yes, even the home white. Call me old fashioned, but I think the home jersey should have the team name on it. All I can think is that the organization knows that there is a market for jerseys outside of fans of the game (ie: rappers), and a jersey that says "Texas" might be more appealing than a jersey that says "Rangers".

One last thing I'll add about the Rangers: get Ben Sheets signed already! Like I said, we're less than 20 days away from spring training. I'm sure he'd like a deal done before camps open.
